Members Only Member Search

Good news! We are ready to deploy the Member Search in the Members Only area. This app will search the NTBA member database (yes, THE database!) If you are an active member of the NTBA, you will be able to search the database going back to the very beginning of the club. You can search by any of the following fields:

First name, last name, nickname, e-mail, city, state, chapter, active or inactive

There is a little debate going on among the database team about whether we should show contact info in the search results. Some folks are concerned about revealing too much personal info, which could be picked up by scammers or hackers. Others believe that the search isn't very useful if you can't get contact info.

So, we decided to use this great poll feature and see what y'all think. What, if any, contact info should we show in the search results?

I voted so you have my two cents BUT I do think if you want to have you info out there you should join the Bucket Buddy list like before and don't join the list if you don't want your info out there Okay I guess thats 4 cents

What would be the point in contact info if ALL of it isn't in Member Search ? Most of us bucketheads don't carry a lap top or computer with us when we travel. So when I go somewhere I print off the members who are along the way. 2 cents

What would be the point in contact info if ALL of it isn't in Member Search?

Well that's exactly what some of us are thinking, but some folks with quite a bit of computer savvy are concerned about security. It was pointed out that anyone could pay the $35 to become a member, then go to the member search and download everyone's contact info for questionable purposes, such as spamming, scamming or identity theft. It was pointed out by others that anyone who checks the Bucket Buddies box in their profile can get ALL of the contact info for anyone who signed up for Bucket Buddies.

So that's why we are doing this poll... to see how concerned the membership is about security versus the convenience of doing a quick search on your smartphone when you break down in Artesia and getting Weelstang's phone #!! ;-D

Further info... in the old set-up in the members only section of the website, a member could do a search of the membership database by any of the following fields:

First Name Last Name Nickname Chapter Area Code State

The search would return the following info on each member who met the search criteria:

First Name Last Name Nickname City State E-mail

Also, if a member had checked the Bucket Buddies "yes" button in their profile, their complete contact info would be available to a member who clicked the "Bucket Buddies List" tab in the Members Only menu, and also would be printed in the Bucket Buddies booklet that was distributed once I year or on request of a member.

So what's the difference between Member Search and Bucket Buddies. Only about half of our current members opted-in to Bucket Buddies, so you won't get any info through Bucket Buddies on the other half that you COULD get through Member Search.

The printed Bucket Buddies never included your home address. It had:
fname
lname
nname
city
state
country
home phone
cell phone

I can see no reason for anymore info than this on a member search.

Ooops! I have never seen the printed BB book. I just assumed it had addresses.
