| A Copyright is protection of a written document (such as poetry, stories,
and other written works) by a particular individual that protects this
individual from copyright piracy. When something is copyrighted, others
are unable to use it - period. So, if you have written a book and you
have it copyrighted, it means that you are the sole owner of that book
and others who try to use it could be punished by the law.
It has become evident that there is a new business in the USA. That business is the generation of cash awards from judgements over copyright infringement. One example is Righthaven, a copyright-enforcement venture launched in Las Vegas by local attorney Steve Gibson. According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Righthaven searches for sites that post articles from selected publishers, buys the rights to those works, then sues the sites' owners for infringement. It has filed more than 165 of these cases so far, and has plans to expand to more jurisdictions. The Rules of the National T Bucket Alliance has an addition to the
rules and regulations to reflect the position of the NTBA on posting
of copyrighted material. (reference Rules governing NTBA website. 7.9) |
