NTBA Nationals Valve Cover Racing Rules
These races are similar to Pinewood Derbies except we use valve cover instead of wood
BASIC RULES
Racer must be made from an automotive Valve Cover with a stock gasket surface. No engines or propulsion of any kind. Must be gravity powered only. No moving or movable weight(s).
Maximum weight limit is 10 Ibs (NTBA scales will be offcial)
Minimum of three wheels per chassis
Maximum wheel diameter of no more than 4 inches
One valve cover per chassis (switching cover or chassis not permitted)
Nothing (inducing wheels) can be mounted forward of the cover or chassis. Wheels can mount on outside edge but total width cannot be more than 12 inches.
Wheels can be inside or outside of valve cover.
Stock valve cover gasket surface must be maintained.

Maximum overall width - 12 inches, maximum overall length 3O inches (allows for straight eight covers), maximum overall height - 10 inches.
A digital camera may be used to determine winners of close finish races.
Two judges will be used at the finish line, usually females and non-participants, so losing racers cannot harass or attack them. Fat Pat and Delaware Bill will be the security officers and will handle all disputes and challenges.
Trophies for first and second in each class on Saturday and prizes for winners of earlier day races.
NTBA is not responsible for damage to valve covers.
There wil1 be tech inspection prior to the race.
Owner is responsible for staging the cover on the track starting line.
Races will be double elimination (two cars per heat).
Draw starting position.

STOCK CLASS
Basic rules apply Must be stock appearing and unmodi5ed except for paint and decals
Non-metallic (touching the track), mass produced and readily available wheels (i.e. skate board, scooter, in-line skate, roller skate, etc: with no modifications such as shaving or trimming). No DVD's, CD's etc. Maximum 4 inches in diameter. R.C. car wheels must run tires.

MODIFIED CLASS

High tech wheels of any kind are acceptable - 6 inch max o.d.
No nitrous, turbos or bowers - lol

ELIMINATIONS
Races will be based upon doubt elimination similar to softball tournaments with a winner's bracket and a loser's bracket. All cars that lose in their first round drop into a loser's bracket. Cars that lose in the lower bracket are eliminated. Winner of lower bracket will race winner of top bracket for first and second.

TRACK
This track will be homemade and hauled all the way from New Mexico so don't expect a professional setup. I will make every effort to make it smooth and level side to side.

Track will be 27 feet long with a carpeted runoff area into a foam rubber stop bumper. Two side-by-side lanes will each be 18 inches wide - wall-to-wall, with 1 x 2 boards on edge as lane divider and sides. 4 feet above ground at start line and slope to ground level at the finish line. Start line to knish line approx 24 feet. Starting will be done by means of a metal type, simultaneous flip up gate.
