Removable Seat insert

This picture shows the start of our seat insert for the T-Buckets upper lip. This lip is made from 16 Ga. metal and tack-welded in place. We like to use 30 to 40 Ga. clear convertible top rear window sheets plastic to make all patterns of the pieces of metal to be tacked. (Keep in mind not everyone has a welder, so for those, this lip can be made out of 1/4 plywood glued together and will take longer for dry time and also will need to be glassed). Tape down 1/8 panel board spacer on upper lip of body to allow for tack strip underneath later. Don't forget to tape off body and windshield and chrome to protect from sparks. Tack welding does not generate much heat, but sometime we use DEI Exhaust Header Wrap as a spacer and heat shield.

Study the picture and with a little commonsense you can start on a new comfort venture for your ride.

In this next picture you can see the T-Bucket body wraparound seat insert. This is done by first starting with 1/4 Luan on the three major sections of the insert, the one large backrest section and than the two side sections. Cut them as you see fit to your bucket and fasten them by laying the 1/4 Luan onto the upper metal lip, using 1/8 steel rivet's.

With the three sides in place now you can take 1/8 waterproof cardboard (get this at any upholstery shop)and start with the two rear corners by making a pattern from clear plastic. Cut cardboard and bend to a smooth carve for corner and fasten across top with 1/8 rivet's and long staple down the sides. You want the staples to go through so they can be turned over on the backside.

Now you can take the same steps for the two front side panels (stop front edge of Luan at front door seams for both sides) 1. Make plastic pattern 2. Cut panel board shape into place 3. and fasten to upper metal lip and down the Luan.

Now all that is needed is to install door edge guard on the outside edge of the metal lip and install the tackstrip underneath the metal lip with 1/8 waterproof cardboard, glued in.

This is pretty much it, Guys, with this done you can start laying out you design or take it to your local upholstery shop. The seat cushion and the rear turtle deck are all separate and are also total removable.

In words and pictures, this all sounds easy and this step will take a little time, but you can do it, it is possible.

Hope all this will give you insight in designing your next interior for your T-Bucket. Have funn VVOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!
