Re: Thoughts and ideas.......
There is some possibility we might make it to this event. It will depend on a previous trip, and we would stop here on the way back. A couple of questions:
1. What is the last date to book hotel rooms?
2. Will there be parking for our trailer?

Hi Mike,
Glad you asked, I was thinking about making a post soon:
#1: The cutoff date for the Motel rooms is April 29th.
#2: Parking should not be a problem. It specifically calls for parking for 50 trucks and trailers starting on the NE corner of the property and fanning out around the rest of the property. Basically you can park wherever you want as long as your not blocking anybody. Just normal good etiquette. If your room happens to be on the south side, then park close.
The motel is roughly in the middle of town directly off of I-90 with good access in and out of town , either on the highway or city streets.
I'm enclosing a picture of the NE corner of the lot, looking west. It's hard to judge in a picture, but there is a lot of parking. That's our maroon car in the middle of the lot, that is not where patrons usually park.

Is there a plan to go down highway 16A, south from Mt. Rushmore? One of the best drives in the country. But don't take a motorhome down.
We did pre-register, but I hit return before all the info was in. Sorry.

Yes sir! Highway 16A is Iron Mountain Road and you are correct.
Tentative plan at the present is to run : Iron Mountain Road; Needles Highway; Spearfish Canyon.
On Wednesday ? we may run to Mt. Rushmore, down Iron Mountain Rd, across the top of Custer State Park, then back north on Needles Highway toward Hill City to catch the 1880's train which departs at 2:00 and gets back around 4:15. Then go across the street and eat at the Alpine Inn. This is the only day we will be on somewhat of a schedule.
Plan is to try and run some of these runs in two different directions because it is like a different run each way. Same goes for the wildlife loop in Custer State Park. Spearfish canyon is quite a bit further out and we may try to combine that with Deadwood with a possible stop in Sturgis and the Full Throttle Saloon. Open to suggestions. Still trying to plan everything out time wise. we basically have more to do than we have time.
Oh, and a final thought. We thought it might be special to go to Mt. Rushmore under the lights on Friday night. That would let everyone see it two different ways and any late arrivals will still get to visit.

If Wednesday is definitely the only possibility for 16A, we're going to have to shuffle our schedule some, because we had planned to arrive Wednesday evening, and this is a cruise we do NOT want to miss.

No worries Mike,
Like I said in an earlier post, we will try to double up on 16A and Needles Highway and do them from different directions.
Whole different perspective and will give the folks coming in at different times a chance.
