Winter cruzin' . . .

Post by Bill Cleveland »

Had the bucket out yesterday to stretch her legs during the winter months. It was 50 degrees and sunny, so I enjoyed myself. :D
(Since I don't put her up for the Winter, such cruises are necessary when the weather will allow.)

Over here on the communist side of the Mississippi called Illinois we can’t cruise in Dec, Jan or Fed if we have EA plates on our “T’s” cause they are not valid and if we have Antique plates they are not valid in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb and Mar. Wish I could exercise my 500hp bucket on warm winter days but not allowed. I have the long speedway chrome turnouts and NO baffles! The music is great.

I am going to pass along the Illinois Plate info and hope I am not imposing, if so delete this post.
In Illinois there are three plates that our T Buckets can display.
1st. The regular car plate that is Red, White and Blue and costs $151/year. Allows unlimited travel. Must display on front and rear.
2nd. The "EA" (Expanded Antique) plate which is tan and white and costs $51/year. This allows unlimited travel from March 1st to Nov, 30th. This plate can also be replaced with an actual year plate that was previously issued by Illinois but currently has an inactive number instead of the EA plate. Must carry EA plate and registration in vehicle.
3rd The "A" (Antique) plate which is $30 for 5 years. This plate is only valid from April 1st to October 31st. The plate is also tan and white. This plate can also be replaced with an actual year plate just like the EA plate. The "A" plate also has additional restrctions. The vehicle can only be driven to and from Car Shows, Cruises, maintenance and demonstration! Daily driving with this plate is prohibited. Numerous police departments in small municipalities in the state ticket "A" plate individuals regularly for driving through their towns on typical non show days. You learn which towns are not "A" plate friendly. A lot of Vintage, Classic and Hot rod owners do not read or understand the laws related to these two plates. The legislature just last fall did extend the EA plate by two months to include Nov and Mar. The no drive period for both A and EA plates has the caviat that you can drive to and from maintenance, demonstrations and organized events during the no drive periods.
This is why we can not take advantage of warm days during the winter to exercise our buckets. Envey out of staters who have that option.
