Harmonic Balancer Replacement

Post by mmclendon »

Checking the timing one day, I found the timing mark about 45o away from where it was expected! That meant that the harmonic balancer had likely spun on its rubber damper. I video recorded the fun of replacing it here.

Great video, Mike! And you have touched on Murphy's law of mechanics: the original reason for taking something apart never remains as the final reason for making the repairs! Thanks for posting!!!

Well done video & thanks for taking the time to do it and share it. As Spanky said it always seems to escalate into a bigger job when we start these kinds of jobs.

Thanks,

good video.. last wk i was looking at the suspension on the fairlane... ugly.. got all replacement rubber bushings.. got to the point of replacing them and didn't like the look of the lower ball joint.. ordered lower A arm... pulled upper A arm to replace the piviot bolt and caps... didn't like the spring saddles either, ordered them too.. found out the A arm should have threads on the pivot cap area... ordered new A arms... so bottom line is what started out to be $50 worth of rubber parts, ended in $ 500 bucks for a total rebuild...
i feel your pain..
