Steering Shaft/Box

Working on my 23 Total Performance T, believe to be a total kit build from TP back in 92/93. Curious if someone knows what they may have used for a steering box back then and how or what secures the steering shaft to the input shaft on the steering box?
The reason I’m asking is that there is a floor mount plate at the bottom of the shaft and someone along the way has put a chrome tube over the steering shaft and has drilled thru the shaft and riveted the chrome tube to the steering shaft. I believe I will have to drill out the rivets to attempt to get the chrome cover over the shaft, then that would allow me to slide the floor mount up over the shaft. Thee current steering shaft with the chrome cover turns thus you can’t use a support from under the dash. I want to replace it with a column that the shaft turns inside the column and add a column support.

I believe they were using reversed Corvair steering boxes, and the steering shaft was secured to the input shaft on the box with a collar and set screw(s).

Spanky is correct on the Corvair box .
