Dvid Freiburger posts on fb: "I am devastated to hear of the loss of Alex Xydias at, I believe, 102 years old. You probably know the stats. He was on a B-17 crew in WWII. He started So-Cal Speed Shop in 1946, and had a string of successful race cars including involvement in Bill Burke’s first-ever belly tank and the fastest streamliner at the first Bonneville meets (in the pic). The Hot Rod Story was one of several film projects of his. He was publisher of Car Craft and Hot Rod Industry News, which was involved in the creation of the SEMA Show. He worked for Mickey Thompson at SCORE. Most recently, he worked with Pete Chapouris to revamp the So-Cal brand in the ‘90s and started the Alex Xydias Center for the Automotive Arts for teens."
