Post by John Eplen »

These pics are about two weeks or so late since I've been trying to get the Tremec 5 speed up in the frame rails which turned out to be very difficult. I wish I'd taken the body off before I put the T on my lift. I'm running out of time w/our NTBA Nats coming closer. The cross member is in now so here are the pics as I attached it to the frame.

This is a view from the back of the cross piece after it was welded in to the K member. The three center holes have alloy lock nuts welded on. With this done I tacked, then welded the outside flanges to the original cross member stubs & to the cross piece.

Then I bolted the inside flanges (dropout part) to the outside welded in flanges. I welded the inside corners & finished them down for clearance w/the center piece when I welded it in later.

I have the cross piece welded in at this point & had to tack weld an alloy lock nut to the inside face near the back on each side when I discovered that there is not enough room to install a bolt from the inside. No matter how much I try to think ahead, I always seem to screw up in some manner or another!

I have 2 more pics which will be posted on another entry following this post.

This is a view when I welded in the corners of the outside flanges that are permanently part of the frame now.

Everything bolted in & ready for primer/paint after I removed the braces, string, etc.

I have the up to date pics to post which I took on Saturday & this morning which I will post as Pt. 4 shortly. But, I've got to take a break & feed the pups since I'm about 2 hours late w/their 'evening Blue Plate'. I think I better fix me something to eat also. John
