Milt...I was very impressed with the photos you sent me last year and I'm SERIOUSLY considering painting my own car. I've seen some awesome looking paint jobs that have been done in driveways. I might though consider taking a class at the tech college.....and yes, you are correct, the biggest job is all the prep work. the body was quite straight when I got it, I've made some mods to it in the last year such as "frenching" in the license plate and the '50 Pontiac tail lights...the tail lights are really down deep...about 2.5 -3" and of course the top of the cowl was not flat so I've been adding glass to that area. the firewall has been glassed and filled with 1/4" plate on the outside of the fire wall and on the inside of the firewall.Milt Atkinson wrote:"So now we wait.....perhaps I'll just paint it myself...how damn difficult can it be? I kept track of what I spent on materials, sandpaper, filler, primer, paint, spray guns, etc., to paint my T-bucket myself ... in the driveway ... no paint booth ... and the total investment was under $400.00, but, that does not count or pay myself for the hours and hours and hours I spent doing the prep work.
I figure the paint will not be cheap, this is why I want to make certain I know what I'm doing before I squeeze the trigger.
I had at first wanted to have small metal flake chips in the paint, but that style of paint will become old very quickly, so I'll be sticking with the normal metallic paint...don't want a junior bass boat or a full blown bass boat. LOL!
