Mark just chose the color you want left on the background/low spots of the plate, then paint the plate a couple times so you get plenty of paint in all the low spots......
After it dries for several days (I leave them sitting for about 2 weeks).
Then when you decide that it is dry, take a palm or belt sander and without getting in the low places just sand off the top of the plate.........after I shine it up a bit on the now Alum surface I then spray the whole plate with clear...............Now stand back and admire your handy work..........................................................
