Attention NTBA local chapter leaders.
I know this is club business and maybe should be in the Members Only section, but I wanted to get maximum exposure for input.
Today at our regular monthly Cowtown Ts meeting, we had a long discussion about whether we wanted to continue to have a formal officer structure. This grew out of a reluctance by most members to accept nominations for the officer positions, of which our by-laws call for five... president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and sergeant at arms. We have a total of 23 "members" (although most "members" are couples, so we actually have about 40 people in the club). Someone asked why we even need officers, which led to the long discussion.
So I am doing a survey of the other chapters...
> Does your chapter have elected officers?
> Does your chapter have by-laws?
> If you don't have officers, how are meetings handled?
> Do you meet on a regular schedule?
> How are cruises arranged?
Any other observations would be welcomed. PM me if you are uncomfortable posting here.

The stl chapter has all 5 officers. We do have by-laws of which many mirror the NTBA by-laws. We get together for activities and cruises monthly and more during the cruising season. We do not have formal meetings. When we are together we set aside time to discuss anything that needs to be addressed. We try to keep it informal and still handle business. We have a number of annual activities such as our chili cook off, safety day, Ladies Cruise, trips to out of town events and parades. We encourage all members to plan some activity or cruise. Communication is done through the chapter Facebook page and email communication throughout the month.

This is Angie... One of these days I will be able to log in myself
I checked the by laws.... 8.1 and 8.2 discuss this but yet it doesn't. You have to have 3 members to make a chapter. With 3 members, you can't elect all 5 officers... Do we need to change our by-laws?

Re: Attention NTBA local chapter leaders.
I kinda keep track of the members for us Lee........We have members from sea to shining sea & all in between but in the Artesia area we have 8 members that are paid up, With the Albuquerque bunch & the Panhandle folks we have about 20 total plus the folks that make our life fun, so if we have a meeting we need to be at some cruise. Kinda like Bill said we just have fun now that may or may not be the way it is but that is the way it is done down here in the Great Southwest..........Lee in KC wrote:Hey Bill, how do you keep track of who is a "member"?

This is one meeting in Tucson...

It works as it is, no changes needed.

we have 4 members, and some friends. we get together the second Saturday of the month for breakfast. then we talk about any club activities we may have upcoming and if something comes up we have a telephone! we also get together to help each other on the cars, so most saturdays some of us are at someones garage. The name of the game is fun with cars, not formal meetings. we technicaly have officers (3). but the president's job is to remind the secretary to remind people of the very important breckfas... meeting!

In the North Texas chapter there is one president and 74 vice presidents ... we don't collect dues, have meetings when the notion strikes us, we track membership via our google e-mail list ... very laid back.

Re: Attention NTBA local chapter leaders.
I'm in the STL chapter, and as Rolla says, we have a full slate of officers. But . . . that's because of some very dedicated and hard working people, who are willing to give of themselves in this way. For smaller chapters, or chapters where there may be no desire for such a structure, I would suggest at minimum someone to agree to be the leader (Chapter Director?) and an assistant (Co-director?) just to have someone as a go-to person for the organization. Perhaps our NTBA by-laws could be ammended to allow for such. Other opinions???
