Steering colums

I am using a GM steering colum (gutted) in my T, because I like the tilt feature, and it was the right price - free! However, since I have removed most of the junk that was part of the passenger car package, I have a lot of slop in the lower part of the column. Does anyone know if there are nylon bushings or similar to insert in the lower column to take out some of the play?

I don't know the exact answer but I bet there is some kind of bushing at the bottom........

bill, i'm with mike i'm not sure either but feel there is something.. but if u know the yr it came out of try googling it and see what comes up..

It's from a '79 Trans Am, and after seeing a rebuild video on U-tube, it looks like there is a bearing at the bottom that was missing from mine when I got it. Oh, well . . . us hotrodders can innovate, right?

On the bottom of the colmn should have a plastic bushing with a steel retainer and a large e-clip holding everything in place

Should be easy to whip out a replacement , if you know someone that has a small lathe .....
