I can't remember what my old 15 inch wide wheels had for a back space. I sold them off years ago. I want to get it right before I spend 500 bucks on a pair of 8 inch wide Draglites for the back. Thanks!

Frank the 15" rims on my Jag rear are 5.5" backset and that gave me about 1/4" of clearance to the hub. double check from the face of the stud plate back to the hub.

5.5", as stated by Mr. Scott, appears to be the max backspace that can be used for lower rim/tire inner clearance. I don't recall seeing what width Jag rear end is being used for this build. Will 5.5" backspaced wheels provide adequate tire to tub clearance?

Well folks, I did a bunch of measuring, and also took some pics.
Where the body will meet the tires it's 44 inches wide. It will not meet it for most of the tire, only 4 to 5 inches, but nevertheless it still has to clear!
Right now junkyard wheel to wheel is 53 inches. The wheels have a backspace of 4 inches and the tires are 7 and 3/4. I think the 5 and 1/2 inch wheels with tires that are 10 and 1/2 wide will clear. No problem with the stake rack.

Your measurements of 53" from wheel to wheel plus 8" of backspace (two 4" wheels) is 61" so that should be sedan rear which is just a bit over 61". 61" minus 11" of backspace (two 5.5" BS wheels) is 50" which should give about 3" per side clearance for the 44" wide tub.

Dezolde, thanks man! That's pretty much what I figured, i.e., there would be room. It is a sedan rear - I know, because I took it out of the sedan! I'll see if I have some pics of my old hot rod, and the new one with the body on.
