When I had my trucking company all my trailers were lift gate trailers, this does happen. The Driver was very lucky, if you look at the left rear side of trailer you will see the operator cord and control box so he was standing right there when to gate came apart.

If man can build it, it WILL break, and gravity gets real unforgiving of mistakes.

The demo derby is supposed to be on the track, not in the pits.
