Hi Rick, I think I see the problem with my situation.

I have Google Fiber, but it is just the basic, I just did a speed test, with the download speed at 5.06 meg and upload is 1.05 meg. I have seen that upload even slower than that.
I have recorded most of my videos at 1080 with a Sony action camera using a micro memory card. The file size seems to be pretty large as compared to yours. As example 1.21 minutes = 506 meg and is MP4.
As an alternate, I have also used my Cannon camera a few times and the file sizes are smaller, file size example 53 seconds 149 meg and is mov.

You could also reduce your file size. Do you have MS Movie Maker ? Another option would be to download VSDC Video Editor, it's free.

Hey Rick, when Google came to this area a few years ago we had an option of signing up for $300.00 commitment. Then when ever they finally show up you get free basic service for the next ?? 6 years as I recall. In any case it was a heck of a savings and that is what we did. We don't have any problem with watching Netflix and watching YouTube and about anything else. So I being cheap sometimes !! have always resisted having to spend $70.00 a month for faster internet till I had to.

Getting something for video editing would be a good thing as a number of the videos have slow content in areas and other things to delete parts in the middle and such. The camera can record in time-lapse as I recall, but I haven't spent enough time with the camera yet, to figure those kinds of things out. Do you think the MS Movie maker is a good system. I don't think we would be doing anything too crazy probably basic editing stuff I would guess.

Nothing wrong with Movie Maker if all you need is the basics. It seems like it came with Win7, but not Win10. I don't think it works with a MOV file without installing the right CODEC. It was available for download from MS, but that is no longer available. But I have the software and could setup a download from my Network Attached Storage (NAS) if you like, it's 26 MB.

MS is pushing their "Photos" program now and you can get that from the MS App Store. They say it works with video, but I have never used it and don't know it's capabilities. I just realized that it is a part of Windows 10, so you may already have it.

I wanted VSDC for it's Image Stabilization in the Pro Version since most of my videos are shot from the car which creates an image that shakes alot. The Pro version only costs $20. You can download the Free version to try, then pay the $20 to unlock the additional features. But with the added complexity makes it more of a challenge to use. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials online if you are so inclined to learn. It would also allow you to further reduce file size with it's additional options.

Hey Rick, I looked around on my laptop and found Video Editor. I did play around with it and did one experiment and think it was basically successful. However the file size is still pretty good size for my current slow uploading options. I think the upload would take about 3 hours for 180 meg. That is a bunch better than the I think it was 3.4 gigabyte original size. I was Wondering if YouTube would time it out if I attempted to upload it. When I shortened it from about 8 1/2 minutes to about 2 1/2 minutes and when finished I saved it at 720 I think it was, there was lower available.
Rick, what resolution should the video be in action type videos to be acceptable to watch?

Hey Rick, my thinking off the top of my head I believe was off. My speed is based on by the second not the minute I think, right?? So in stead of 180 minutes it should be 180 seconds if my thinking is correct, right ????

What editor ?

Not sure YouTube is going to timeout, it's just something you will have to try.

Most people are not going to watch an 8 minute or even a 5 minute video. Try cutting out the long boring parts and get it down to between 1-2 minutes.

The resolution is another place to reduce the file size and 720 would be fine for something on YouTube. More importantly would be the compression. If it's too much then it will look blocky or better known as "Pixelated" because it's having to group too many pixels into one color. See my 10 sec example below.

Well that's doable for a 2.5 minute video in 30 minutes. You are right the quality is down some, but there is something about low light video that makes them worse so I'm not surprised. Wish I knew what caused it, but that would take time and probably not much I can do about it anyway. I think you will find that video taken during the daytime will look better.

Nice job, what was your time and speed ? Shift points sounded reasonable, are you running an automatic ?

Kevin that video is OK for a link on the internet. Yes they can be better but at what cost. Like Rick said most people will not sit there and watch a 4 min video you have to remember people don't have much of an attention span these days..

I like that and the time might be about right maybe a little slow I can do a 2 min video in about 20 mins. depends a little on the time of day also..
