Thoughts and ideas.......

Post by Dennis Neblock »

Hi Everyone,
Well, it’s cold and dismal for a lot of us and I thought I’d drop a note about the Rapid City-Black Hills Fun Run to get everyone thinking of the warm cruising to come.
I’m going to throw out some ideas as well as some information for everyone to think about and would welcome some feedback.

First off are a couple of things that seem to be generating some interest, but not quite sure when to include them. The Devils Tower National Monument and Badlands National Park seem to be of interest to several folks. Question is: How to do it? The general thought is that these are both long distance runs. Devils Tower is in the 110 – 125 mile range one way. The Badlands are in the 65 – 75 mile range one way. Generally speaking we should be able to stay off I-90 if we want and go more scenic routes. It’s been thrown out there that because of this that maybe they should be earlier in the week for our more hard-core cruisers. What do you think? Let’s hear some feedback on this, they can be run at any time, just trying to please the most people.

Next up is a little info. We don’t have any shortage of places to eat. Within 5 to 7 minutes we have a : Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Applebees and Chili’s. These are the common chains. Within 10 to 12 minutes we can be in the “Downtown District”. Here we have places to walk to ice cream, adult watering holes as well as local restaurants. One place on the agenda for lunch is Sickies Garage, it’s a T Bucket kind of place with car parts, memorabilia and good food. Our motel is located right on I-90 which gives us quick access to about everywhere.

As far as runs in general, there are an additional 3 or 4 in the planning stages to keep everyone busy. One route will include Hill City where we can eat at the Alpine Inn (limited menu: filet mignon, wedge salad and baked potato for about $16, what can I say?). Then combine that with the 1880’s Train Ride which is about 2:15hrs long and about $37 per person. Other spots will include, Deadwood, Sturgis, Custer State Park (maybe twice, different directions) as well as, you guessed it, Mount Rushmore.

So let’s hear from y’all. Can’t complain if you don’t vote: so to speak! Plenty of stuff to see and do, we just need a little direction!
Stay Warm,
Dennis

Dennis, they all sound great I would like to add Spearfish Cannon between Spearfish and Deadwood. I ridden that several times on a motor cycle but would love to do it in a T Bucket. Devils Tower would be a nice ride and would love to do that again back roads to it are great and several little towns on the way for breaks and fuel,

Well it has been about 20 years since I have been there so any run will be a great idea for me.......

I did drive the Custer Park back then, but it was in a 1996 Lincoln Town Car, and it was just not the same as my Bucket or the Cedan will be I am sure....You just tell me what is up and I will load up and go.......

...OR on the other Hand I will do what my wife would rather do.........LOL....
TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS

Might not hurt to mention that we might see some critters on this run, big and small. This is at Custer State Park. Makes you wonder if Werner really needed that picture that bad?

This comes under the "Thoughts" category. For the folks that want to visit Devils Tower or the Badlands. This includes visiting in your T Bucket or when traveling thru with your street car or truck and trailer. There is an entrance "Fee" for both, the research I have done shows it at $25 per vehicle which I'm sure is subject to change. You may want to consider a "America the Beautiful " pass. I've included a link that I think would be good to look over.
For those of you that have reached the "Magic Age" of 62, be sure and click the appropriate button a little down the page.
