Itinerary for Swamp Rabbit Run

Wednesday
Leaving the hotel we will take a scenic drive on the way to Mount Sassafras the highest point in SC where we can see 4 states from the lookout and be able to stand in 2 states at one time. From there we will travel back on the Cherokee Foothills Byway to have lunch at Aunt Sue's . When we are done with lunch we will proceed to Hagood Mill. This mill was built in 1845 and is still working. We can tour the mill and the cabins from that time. Then back to the hotel.

Thursday
On this trip we will travel the back roads over the Blue Ridge Mountains to Maggie Valley, NC where we will stop at the Wheels thru Time museum. For those not interested in the museum, Maggie Valley has a lot of small souvenir and novelty shops all along main street. After that we will stop for lunch and then return back to the hotel.

Friday
Leaving the hotel on the way to Greer, SC we will stop by Campbell's Covered Bridge, the only remaining covered bridge in SC. This bridge was built between 1909 and 1911 and is a nice place for photos. In Greer, we will make a stop at Jim Benson's private Memory Lane Museum where they are giving us a special guided tour. There is no cost for this, but the museum operates on donations. Back on the road we will pass the BMW manufacturing plant in Greer on our way to lunch at Shelton's Smoking Butts. They have more then just BBQ including burgers and lots of country favorites. From there we will drive into the little town of Reidville and stop to get a lesson on the making of moonshine at Sugar Tit Moonshine Distillery. Then back to the hotel.

Saturday
At this time we will be headed to Six Mile, SC to visit the Semper Fi Barn. This is a place designed to honor all veterans and provide them and their families to meet and relax. Semper Fi Barn will be providing lunch for us and hopefully we will have some of the veterans and locals coming to look at our cars. There is an area at the barn that has several hundred dog-tags hanging in honor of veterans that served our country. When the wind blows, you can hear all the dog-tags ringing. If you have a friend or family member that served you can have a set of dog-tags made in their honor. Have one to hang and take one with you. There is no cost for this or lunch but the barn operates on donations. From there we will head back to the hotel.

Travelers Rest, SC is a little town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, they have lots of little restaurants, pubs and shops to explore.
If you prefer to eat at one of the chain restaurants, they are available in Greenville about 10 miles away.
