newsletter viewing issue

When I open file, it wants to open using microsoft works, which fails everytime I try. How do I change what I want to open the file with, anyone know???.. Microsoft works issues a block msg saying: file may be in use by another application, or file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or file may be corrupt. Have always had trouble using microsoft works, maybe something I'm doing wrong, just don't know, I'm definitely not a PC guru......

DL and run a PDF viewer software such as Adobe or Nuance. This will become your default viewer, returning the power to you instead of Bill Gates.

down loaded Adobe reader but apparently does not default to that when I try, still comes up with 'microsoft works'... Example: Tried to download info on Freds run, once I hit the download (pdf) file, then at the bottom it says 'you want to open or save file, I hit the run part and thats when it pulls up the 'microsoft works' box. Also still get the same when trying to view the newletter. Must be manual way to set the default....????

Old Bill Gates is playing hard ball. At some time during your installing of the new Adobe software didn't it ask you if you wanted to make it your default viewer? If so, answer "yes".

I won't be much help because I use a file manager called "Total Commander" which allows me to choose what programs will be used with any file extension, i.e. pdf, jpg, mpg, avi, etc. I just got tired of Mr. Gates strong arming me to use his bloated software.

Someone care to step up to the plate and give Gary a hand?

OK OK finally got it to be the default. Had to save the file (first time only), then go into the downloaded file, right click, then it would asl what I wanted to use, I then clicked on the 'adobe reader' and also at the same time it asked what I wanted as the default, so thats how it got changed. Anyway, thats how I got it to work... thx for your help.... see ya at Freds, if your there.....
