extended body

Post by 30Austin27 »

can anyone tell me how to figure out how long the frame should be for a longer body. I have a 4 seat body and would like to build a frame for it. how do I determine the length of the frame? :?:

I'm no expert, but . . . a good guess would be that the frame needs to be longer in front of the rear kick-up by the same length as the extended body. In other words, if the longer body is 4 inches longer than a standard body, then the frame needs to be 4" longer from the rear kick-up forward. :)

Since you are doing a custom frame, I would suggest you mock it up in 2"x3" wood so you can adjust easily to get the layout you want before sparks fly. I would mock up all the components that require mounting to the frame to locate cross-members, tabs, brackets, etc. to confirm proper alignment and relationship to adjacent components. Put the body on, place the wheels/tires where you want them to get the look you want, measure wheelbase and track. Locate axle mounts to get the wheelbase you want. Set the rake in the mock up and plan mounts to get that rake.

Others I'm sure will have other suggestions.

Most importantly... HAVE FUN!! :)!
