Should I buy this

New guy with a question. T bucket fresh build on a Speedway chassis not titled. needs some detail work and a radiator shell and some cooler wheels like a set of wires I have in the shop. He's asking $6000 What do you think? Oh yeah, I'm from Illinois.

I would think at 6000 bucks you could really have a nice car.......The most important thing is Safety, so make sure the Brakes & Steering are done right....I am sure he has much more than 6 grand in the car and you could make it yours pretty easy...Be sure to check the welding as good as you can......Go for it.........

What Mikey said . . . go for it! I agree that safety issues are primary, but at that price you've got a great platform to start with, and lots of advice from people on this web site to help you as you make changes.

What the guys above said. ALSO, what kind of paperwork does the seller have for you to register the the car in your state. In some states, registering a home built car is a nightmare.

Finally, I would ask, and understand, why the seller got this far along and never registered it!

Thanks guys I got to think this over a bit. Illinois can be a booger to title a car but having been doing street rods for many years I've got some good friends that have been down that road. I haven't saw the car in person as of yet, holidays and all if it's still there in a few weeks I may have to find room for it. A bucket has always been on my list, pun intended. I run a 1959 short wheelbase front engine dragster so I'm no stranger to a car with a good power to weight ratio. And I'll be sure to have my crew chief check it over real well. If I bring it home I'll be sure to let you all know.

Thanks and its a 283 Chevy which is about the same displacement as a 4.3 V6. I've ran a 151 Cube Pontiac 4 cyl and a 171 Cube stroked Chevy II 4 cyl. I may be going back to a 4 banger in the form of a Pontiac Super Duty as the 283 is getting tired. It runs 7.50 sec. @ 91 MPH in the 1/8 mile.
