Hi Spanky (Bill). Just got done with the move. Been here just over a week now. The garage I now have is FULL to overflowing with boxes. It's amazing how much stuff I had stashed away in my old apartment (with no garage or additional storage). And, AFTER I moved in I was given a list of rules for garage use. One of them is ... No repairs to cars. Another rule is no use of any power tools so my question is why have electrical outlets if you can't use them? My interpretation is... I'm not REPAIRING a car, I'd be BUILDING a new one. We'll see how that flys. Guess I can't even use my table saw or wood lathe which I used on the patio of my old apartment.

As for a T build .... I'm considering my options. It may still happen but I can't commit to anything right now.
RE: Shank- No I have not seen or heard from him since our first meeting. I did attend a "meeting" of a group known as 'Senior Rodders' but I must say I'm not impressed by them.

Summer has arrived and this place basically shuts down until October because it's just way too hot to do anything. Already had a long string of 106+ days. Three to four months of sitting on my behind doing nothing,.... again. Did I tell you I hate Arizona?

As you may be able to tell from reading posts on this web site, bucketheads are not like other rodders - we treat each other like family! See if you can hang with Shank a bit - offer to help him with his bucket or whatever. It think you two can get the ball rolling for a chapter; start small and enjoy the comraderie. I started out as Pres of the St Louis chapter, and didn't have a car - just a few parts. Keep the faith!

Going to start a build very soon. Just trying to see who can ship cheapest. Shipping is adding ridiculous amounts to the cost.

Well, tomorrow (December 19th )I order the frame.

Part of the delay was convincing my apartment manager to allow a build. Did that, but has to be kept on the quiet. Not really allowed to do it and if the owner finds out I'm.... done. So today I arranged a second garage to use solely for a T Bucket 'workshop'. Should have room but still only 110 volt outlet. On the plus side, the maintenance guy can tack weld everything for me and his brother can then fully weld it all, at a price to be determined. OR I can take the tacked frame to a shop for finishing.

Next month (January) I'll order the body.

In the meantime I'm looking for an engine I can work on in-between other stuff.

I replied in your other thread about locating engines on the cheap. Good to hear you can at least get a start. Slow and steady wins the race. No need to rush. Enjoy the build process.

You can do a lot with a 110 welder than you think. You just have to go really slow. Of course, you'll want to make practice welds and then cut them apart to check for penetration before welding on the car. I ran into an issue where I wasn't getting clean power to my older Lincoln 135 welder, so I had to run a dedicated 20A outlet for it. I know that's not possible when you're renting.

If you're interested in trying to start up a meet, put the word out of Craig's list. Make up some small half page flyers, that way you can get two per page, and hand them out to people who may be interested. You could also ask some of the parts houses to keep a small stack on the counter. You could ask to post one in the window, or even post a couple to store bulletin boards. We still have those here where I live in SC. Imagination is the only limitation. Mine isn't the greatest.

Said his brother might do it but would charge full going rates. So I called a few welders to get an idea of cost. $96 an hour PLUS $135 call out. So..... $230 for the first hour, 96 an hour after that. WAY TOO MUCH.

Looks like if I want a T it's going to have to be a "store bought cookie cutter". No chance to do it my way.

Not a good day today. After all this time I finally got excited and enthused again... now disappointment.

Slayer, at that cost, it may be cheaper to take a welding introduction class at a local tech school and buy a lower end welder or make friends with someone that welds. I am semi-self-taught. When I went to vocational school during high school, I took industrial mechanics. In that class, we took introductory courses in basic arc welding, basic machining, basic hydraulics, basic carpentry, and basic plumbing. I grew up with family and friends that worked in all those fields, so I learned to be a jack of all trades, absolute master of none.

There's nothing wrong with a bolt together T. There's plenty of areas left to add personal touches. You have the interior layout, how your car sits, body mounting, paint, and trim. If this is your first rod, it may be the best way to get your feet wet. It will be the fastest way to get on the road. You can always build a second car from the ground up your way. My T will be my first scratch built car.

Why not call RPM and he can build you a frame to your specs and ship it to you cheaper than you can usually buy just the materials for it. JMHO
