Trailering Thoughts/Info/Advice Request

For several years I used a 10,000 lb weight distributing hitch. In 2011 I bought a new truck and installed Air bags to the rear axle. I haven't used the old hitch since then and as best as I can tell haven't had any adverse effects. I now have pulled the trailer more than 10,000 miles this way. Clarification, I will on occasion use the old hitch ( without the bars ) when on vacation as example and want to drop the tailgate without having to unhook from the trailer.

As we prepare for Springfield, I am going to pull the lever on the new weight distribution hitch. I have closed in on the Fastway E2 92-00-1065. This is a trunnion bar style hitch.

Does anyone have any pros or cons before I send the money?

Just make sure you know what your tongue weight is. That system says 1000lbs. Check T/W when trailer is fully loaded.

Great minds! I just bought one of those. I weighted mine, loaded, via the cantilever method and it was about 800 pounds. I can not wait to load the trailer again and weigh it to see how close the cantilever method is.

BTW - I will bring the tongue scale to Springfield, if anyone else would like to check their tongue weight.

Just to close the loop on Tongue Weight, the Sherline showed that me tongue weight is 800 pounds. This is within 5 pounds of what the cantilevered bathroom scale showed.

I will bring the Sherline scale to Springfield, if anyone wants to use it!
