Popular Mechanics did an article or two, back in the 80's (I think), on something quite similar. IIRC, they used a VW front axle, with a tube "sub-chassis" to connect the axle to the motorcycle frame, (minus the front forks, of course). In so doing, all the front end stuff was easy to find parts for, and was just as easy to service. I seem to recall they also explored the possibility of two forward seats, with a single centered seat aft for the driver. It was touted as a fuel-sipping commuter car at the time, and I would be hard-pressed to even try to remember what they called it after all these years.

As a matter of fact, I just did a google search for the above title, and one can still get the plans for this. I was, however, wrong on where it first made it's appearance. It was Mechanix Illustrated, not Pop Mech.

I wanted to do that so bad. I even bought plans for the Trimuter. That was a 3 wheel (2 wheels in back) but when this came out I wanted it more so I sold off the stuff I had and never went any further. He has a hybrid project now that is real cool. Google Quincy Lynn Enterprises for info.
