Itinerary

Post by Bruce DeAngelis »

Early information on the National event schedule in Boerne, TX. June 22-27.

Hi All,
If you’re planning on coming to the Nationals this is a tentative plan for the week.
If you arrive on Sunday the 21st we will do a meat and greet with some burgers and dogs either at the hotel or my backyard. Afterwards we will get the week started right with some ice cream. Unknown yet if we will have it there or make our first run.
On Monday we’ll stay close to Boerne. It’s a neat little town with lots to do on Main Street. We will probably make a short run to some local hot rod shops. We can do a group dinner that night.
Tuesday we’ll go into San Antonio to see the Alamo and the Riverwalk. We’ll do a river boat ride then lunch on the river. This is the river that runs throughout the downtown area, very picturesque. This is also going to be something different because we’re not going to take the buckets downtown. We will work on bunching up in street vehicles.
Wednesday will be a “we brought our buckets to drive” kind of day, with scenic drives west of Boerne. We’re even going to go on Texas’s version of “tail of the dragon”.
Thursday (part one) a trip into Fredericksburg (a German town) and go through the Museum of the Pacific WW11. Admiral Nimitz is from Fredericksburg. We’ll then go to lunch at a German style brewery. Finishing with a stop in Luckenbach and have a beer with Waylon and Willie and the boys.
Friday (part two) back to the wine country outside of Fredericksburg. A tour of the LBJ family ranch (also known as the Texas White House back when he was President). Lunch in Johnson City, tour of a vintage motorcycle museum. Stop in the AJ Foyt winery (with some of his race cars) along with the Fat Ass winery and brewery (real name 😂) and any other you want to go to.
Saturday will be the meeting, then maybe a poker run, or a pizza run, or a beer run 😂.
All events will be fully explained with plenty of gas stoops, stretch your legs stops and socializing stops. As always you’ll have the choice to stay with the group or venture out on your own. All maps and instructions will be easy to follow, and your questions will be answered (like what are we doing next?). Not to worry, your gas tank and belly will always be full, and yes, ice cream runs every night!
This is an initial itinerary and subject to some changes. My next post will be more detailed and also give directions going into Boerne.
Look forward to seeing all of you.

Living in San Antonio, I can vouch for Boerne and Fredericksburg being must-visit destinations. The drive to Fredericksburg takes about an hour and 10 minutes, and it's total worth it for the amazing German food craft beer, shopping and wine-tasting. The LBJ Ranch is a must-see, steeped in history. You'll love every stop Bruce mentioned above, and you will want to come back again... This will be a fun, awesome drive with beautiful scenery.

More information on the National event schedule in Boerne, TX. June 22-27.

Hi All,
If you’re planning on coming to the Nationals this is a tentative plan for the week.
If you arrive on Sunday the 21st we will do a meat and greet with some burgers and dogs in my backyard. Afterwards we will get the week started right with some ice cream.

On Monday we’ll stay close to Boerne. It’s a neat little town with lots to do on Main Street. We may make a short run. We will do a group dinner that night to an Italian restaurant.

Wednesday will be a big cruise day through the hill country to a large outdoor Texas size BBQ.

Thursday (part one) a cruise to the wine country outside of Fredericksburg.

Friday (part two) a trip into Fredericksburg. You will have a choice to go through the Museum of the Pacific WW11, walk and shop the streets of Fredericksburg, or go over to a classic car sales dealership. We’ll then go to lunch at a German style brewery. Finishing with a stop in Luckenbach and have a beer with Waylon and Willie and the boys.

We will watch times because we need to be back to BOERNE for a Friday night show. Three businesses (including “Hambys” a 60s style hamburger place) will be blocking off their parking lot on Main Street for us. We’ll have access to dinner and brews within walking distance. The Visitors Bureau is excited we’re coming in and is doing a lot of advertising for people to come out and see the cars! In another week we should be on their website, I’ll send a link.

Saturday will be the meeting, then we’ll plan something easy for the afternoon.

I’m trying to plan a group dinner for us each day, with one big meal and then available lighter eats. Either lunch or dinner being a bigger meal. I know we always overeat 😂. I’m also trying to make this event as “budget friendly” as I can. I realize we are all spending a lot of money to be a part of this, and hopefully some of the prices will come down by the time of it.

I’ll also need four or five volunteers for the corner workers directing traffic on cruises, and ideas on the shag wagon for Wed, Thurs, and Fri.

Check the website for all information on dates and the hotel. The cut off date for the hotel is June 7th.
This is an initial itinerary and subject to some changes. My next post will be more detailed and also give directions going into Boerne.
Look forward to seeing all of you.

Sorry folks we had to cancel our visit due to some health issues popping up. Wish we could have been there.
